A hydraulic press is a powerhouse, but because it deals with immense pressure, it requires respect and regular maintenance. A neglected press isn’t just inefficient—it can be dangerous.
1. Inspect the “Vitals” Regularly check the hydraulic lines and the ram for leaks. Even a small “sweat” of oil can indicate a seal is beginning to fail. Keep the ram clean; dust and metal shavings can score the cylinder if they get trapped inside.
2. Lubricate the Moving Parts The frame itself needs love, too. Ensure the pins that hold the bolster (the adjustable workbed) are in good condition and that the sliding surfaces are lightly greased to prevent corrosion and sticking.

Center Your Load: Always ensure the force is applied directly in the center of the ram. Off-center loads can cause parts to “eject” sideways under pressure.

Use the Right Plates: Never use makeshift spacers. Use the heavy-duty steel arbor plates designed for the machine.

Eye Protection: This is non-negotiable. When metal is under 10 or 20 tons of pressure, a failure can send shards flying at incredible speeds.
